God, through His holy Church, teaches us that "The role of parents in education is of such importance that it is almost impossible to provide an adequate substitute" (CCC 2221). The religious education provided by the dedicated faithful in our parish family is not meant to supplant the God-given duty of parents to educate their own children, but rather to supplement that education and to provide a welcoming, fun, and safe environment in which your children—in the company of their peers—are given sound, orthodox Catholic teaching regarding faith and morals.
At Saint Rose of Lima our Religious Education program begins with the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (for ages 3 through Kindergarten). CGS uses Montessori teaching principles to present the most essential realities of the Catholic faith to even very young children. Specially designed materials and inspiring presentations help children explore areas of faith formation appropriate to their developmental age. In the CGS children are encouraged to work “hands on” and to explore the wonders of the Catholic Faith using all of their senses, in singing and in silence, inundated by the wonderment of True Faith.
In grade levels 1-8 students are taught to pray, to develop a love and understanding of Sacred Scripture and the Sacred Tradition of the Church, and to prepare for the holy Sacraments. At Saint Rose of Lima we endeavor to instill a deep, and hopefully, abiding love for the Presence of Christ in His holy Sacraments and the Love, Mercy, and Glory of God the Most Holy Trinity in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.
God, through His holy Prophet Hosea, says “my people are destroyed for lack of knowledge…” (Hos. 4:6). Now, more than any time in recent history, the very life of our Faith is being threatened by the rising tide of anti-religious secularism and the decay of morals. The antidote to chaos is the Incarnate Logos (the Word of God), Christ Jesus Our Lord. There are few gifts that a parent can give to their child more precious than the gift of holy knowledge: who they are, who loves them, and how that love can transform them and the world around them.
