Saint Pio of Pietrelcina is know for his piety and charity and especially for the five wounds of our Lord’s
passion that appeared on his body – making him the first stigmatized priest in the history of the Catholic Church.
Veneration will be from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm on May 5th.
Veneration begins at 10:00 am and ends with Mass in honor of Padre Pio at 6:00 pm on May 6th.
Venerating Padre Pio’s Relics
The word, veneration comes from the Greek, Dulia which means the respect reserved for the saints and Mary. This is not adoration. Adoration is reserved for God alone.
The faithful are invited to spend time in the church to venerate the relics properly and to ask for Padre Pio’s intercession. People will have the opportunity to touch the reliquaries. You can bring a devotional or religious item in contact with the reliquaries so that the item becomes a third-class relic in accordance with the canon law.
If the line of the faithful is long (during veneration) the faithful might be requested to touch only one relic, whether by hand or with a religious article. In addition, two or more faithful at any time may be allowed to touch a single relic to save time. That will allow all those attending the veneration to touch the reliquaries of Padre Pio.
PLEASE, NOTE: It is important to remind everyone that the relic waves can be touched either on the glass case or on the wooden body in order to preserve the bishop seal. The faithful are not allowed to pick up, to hold or to kiss any of the relic waves.
There will be a box or basket near the relics where the faithful can drop their prayer intentions. Place the petition in any of the two boxes or baskets near the relics of Padre Pio. Donation to assist Padre Pio’s Foundation is appreciated.
